Seven years ago, UNITED SIKHS saw a need for education outreach and responded accordingly. This was the beginning of Educare Center. A few years later, UNITED SIKHS' first EduCare center was set up in New York City, in May 2006 as a response to social challenges faced by minority communities today.
Located in the heart of the Sikh-Panjabi community in Richmond Hill in Queens, NY, the Educare center has two areas of focus: Education and Healthcare. The center is envisioned to be of the community, by the community and for the community, where members are welcome to come and participate in ongoing programs, or volunteer to lead projects as well.
Look out for additions like ESL (English as a Secondary Language) curricula, a peer based ESL learning assistance program, youth council/forum, diabetes awareness sessions, healthy living classes and cancer prevention information opportunities!
The Educare Centre provides services to enrich and inspire the local Sikh and Punjabi community, especially women, youths and the elderly. However, in keeping with the Sikh principle of, 'sarbat da bhala' -service for the good of all – anyone in need is welcome.
